Used in the manufacture of barium oxide, barium peroxide, optical glass, ceramics and glazing agents, etc. It can also be used as explosives, accelerants, green pyrotechnics, flares, light bullets, and can be used in anticorrosion, chemical reagents, medicine, and metal heat treatment.
Skin contact: Remove contaminated clothing and rinse skin thoroughly with soapy water and water.
Eye contact: Lift eyelids, flush with running water or saline, seek medical attention.
Inhalation: Remove quickly from the scene to fresh air and keep the airway open. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. If breathing stops, immediately perform artificial respiration and seek medical attention.
Ingestion: Drink sufficient amount of warm water, induce vomiting, wash the stomach with 2%~5% sodium sulfate solution, induce diarrhoea, seek medical attention.
Hazardous properties: Strong oxidising agent. When fire occurs in combustible materials, it can promote the fire. Mixed with reducing agent, organic matter, flammable materials such as sulfur, phosphorus or metal powder can form explosive mixtures. When it burns and decomposes, it releases toxic nitrogen oxide gas.
Harmful combustion products: nitrogen oxides.
Extinguishing methods: Firefighters must wear gas masks and full body fire suits to extinguish the fire upwind. Mist water, sand and soil. Do not direct stream of water at molten material as this may cause a serious stream fire or cause violent boiling.
Spill handling
Isolate the spill contaminated area and restrict access. Emergency responders are advised to wear dust masks (full face masks) and hazmat suits. Do not come into direct contact with the spill. Do not allow spill to come into contact with organic materials, reducing agents, or flammable materials.
Small amount of leakage: Sweep up carefully, put in a bag and transfer to a safe place.
Large spillage: Collect and recycle or transport to waste disposal site for disposal.
Respiratory protection: Self-priming filtering dust masks are recommended for potential exposure to the dust.
Eye protection: Wear safety glasses.
Body protection: Wear polythene anti-virus clothing.
Hand protection: Wear neoprene gloves.
Other protection: Smoking, eating and drinking are prohibited on the work site. Shower and dress after work. Maintain good hygiene practices.
Handling, Storage and Transport
Operation precautions: Closed operation, strengthen ventilation. Operators must be specially trained and strictly follow the operating procedures. It is recommended that operators wear self-priming filtering dust masks, safety glasses, polythene anti-virus clothing and neoprene gloves. Keep away from fire and heat source, smoking is strictly prohibited in the workplace. Keep away from flammable and combustible materials. Avoid generating dust. Avoid contact with reducing agents, acids and alkalis. Load and unload lightly to prevent damage to packaging and containers. Equip with appropriate varieties and quantities of fire-fighting equipment and emergency equipment for leakage. Empty containers may retain harmful substances.
Storage precautions: Store in a cool, ventilated warehouse. Keep away from fire and heat source. It should be stored separately from flammable (combustible) materials, reducing agents, acids, alkalis and edible chemicals, and should never be mixed. The storage area should be equipped with suitable materials to contain the leakage. Strictly implement the "five-double" management system for extremely toxic substances.
Packaging: plastic bags or two-layer kraft paper bags outside the full-open or open steel drum (steel plate thickness of 0.5 mm, the net weight of each barrel does not exceed 50 kg), LTL and then loaded into the through the cage crate; plastic bags or two-layer kraft paper bags outside the ordinary crate; threaded-mouth glass bottles, glass bottles with iron lid pressure mouth, plastic bottles, or metal barrels (cans) outside the ordinary crate.
Note for transport: When transported by railway, it should be loaded in strict accordance with the dangerous goods loading table in the "Dangerous Goods Transportation Rules" of the Ministry of Railways. When transporting separate shipments, the transport process to ensure that the container does not leak, collapse, fall, and not damaged. The transport vehicle should be equipped with corresponding varieties and quantities of fire-fighting equipment during transport. It is strictly prohibited to mix and transport with acid, flammable materials, organic materials, reducing agents, self-flammable materials, flammable materials in contact with moisture and so on. When transporting, the vehicle speed should not be too fast, and should not be forced to overtake the vehicle. Before and after loading and unloading of transport vehicles, they should be thoroughly cleaned and washed, and it is strictly prohibited to mix organic substances, flammable substances and other impurities.
