The properties of potassium chlorate, commonly used material in fireworks, are named potassium chlorate in English; molecular formula is KCIO, molecular weight is 122.55.

1. Physicochemical properties. Appearance and properties: colourless flaky crystals or white granular powder, taste salty and cool: melting point: 356 ℃; relative density (water = 1): 2.32; solubility: soluble in water, alkali solution, etc., insoluble in alcohol, glycerol, etc..
2. Health hazards. Strong irritation to skin and mucous membrane, easily absorbed through the skin. When absorbed in large quantities, it causes symptoms such as heavy head, headache, tiredness, fatigue, pallor and cyanosis.
3. Hazardous Characteristics. This product is flammable, strong oxidising agent, stable at room temperature, above 400°C it decomposes and releases oxygen. Mixed with reducing agent, organic matter, flammable materials (such as sulfur, phosphorus or metal powder, etc.) can form explosive mixtures, and can explode when heated sharply.
4. Emergency treatment of leakage. Isolate the leaking contaminated area and restrict access. It is recommended that emergency personnel wear dust masks (full face masks) and anti-virus clothing. Do not come into direct contact with the spill. Do not allow leaks to come into contact with organic materials, reducing agents, flammable materials, etc. Small amount of leakage: Collect in a dry, clean, covered container with a clean shovel. Large quantity spills: cover with plastic sheeting, canvas, etc., then collect for recycling or transport to a waste disposal site for disposal.
